Lech Walesa Award for Euromaidan Movement
Ruslana and seven other representatives of the civil rights movement Euromaidan received this year’s Lech Walesa Award. The prize endowed with 100,000 US dollars (about 78,000 euros) is awarded for outstanding commitment for democracy and human rights.
At the award ceremony in Gdansk Nobel Prize laureate Lech Walesa called for solidarity with Ukraine. Ruslana emphasized in her speech that it was most important to prevent further bloodshed and to save lives.
For the singer and activist, this ceremony was important for the positive image of Ukraine on the international level. With his propaganda instruments Putin tries to damage the name of Ukraine - this must be counteracted.
The award recipients including the mayor of Kyiv Vitaly Klitschko want to let the Ukrainian people decide what the prize money will be used for.
